Washington
State Taxpayer's $TRIKE!
How to
$TRIKE!
Most taxes are taken
from us without our consent and there is little we can do about it in the short
run. However, the real estate tax collected each year is one tax that we can
withhold for up to three years with only interest and penalties added. It is
not illegal to do this as long as we pay the penalties and interest when we
finally do pay the tax. The Washington State Taxpayer's Strike calls for all
taxpayers to refuse to pay the property tax for the next three years. Start by
holding back your April 30th, 2000 payment next month. It will cost 1% per
month in interest. Also, a 3% penalty on the full year tax bill will be
assessed after May 31st, 2000 and another 8% after November 30th, 2000. The
penalties are assessed in the first year only, but the interest is added on
every month. It figures out to less than 15% per year over the three years. We
can probably cover most of that cost by investing the tax payment until we
finally settle the bill in three years. There are hundreds of mutual funds in
the United States that have averaged more than 15% per year returns over the
past five years. If we all stick together on this, the government will get the
message. In the meantime, if sufficient numbers of us do this, we will force a
reduction in government spending because they will not have our tax dollars to
spend. It is time to join the Washington State
Taxpayers Strike. (Report your withholding on our
$TRIKE! report page, to be added to our Progress
Report)
