Your property tax
strike will cost 1% per month in interest. Also, a 3% penalty on the full year
tax bill will be assessed after May 31, 2000, and another 8% after November
30th, 2000. The penalties are assessed in the first year only, but the interest
is added on every month. It figures out to less than 15% per year over the
three years. We can probably cover most of that cost by investing the tax
payment until we finally settle the bill in three years. There are hundreds of
mutual funds in the United States that have averaged more than 15% per year
returns over the past five years.
